JOB DESCRIPTION: PACKAGING MANAGER

Salary based on experience

Hop Nation Brewing Co are looking for a Packaging Manager to lead the packaging department of our production brewery at 20 Latham St, Mornington. You will be responsible for leading the packaging team on our CODI canning line and M+F Technik keg washer/filler while adhering to strict quality and safety standards. A successful candidate will be able to juggle multiple priorities, keep the lines of communication open, and manage a functional team with a safety and quality first mentality, as well as lead by example, be organized, practice sanitary packaging procedures, carry out preventive maintenance, follow quality control protocols, have a strong mechanical aptitude and be an exceptional problem solver.

Responsibilities

Planning/Scheduling

  • Work with the head brewer and general manager to coordinate packaging schedules
  • Coordinate casual staff for packaging assistance
  • Review efficiency and consistency of packaging operations and be proactive about developing and implementing improvements

Packaging

  • Inventory management and procurement of all packaging materials
  • Operate, troubleshoot and maintain all packaging equipment
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of all equipment
  • Manage, train and hold accountable packaging team members with a focus on safety, quality and efficiency
  • Improve production efficiencies and yields
  • Minimise downtime on packaging equipment by implementing continuous improvement, preventive maintenance and problem solving
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for safety, CIP and packaging operations
  • Ensure all record keeping, SOPs and logs are clear and up to date
  • Work closely with cellar and brewing operations to ensure smooth product flow and the timely completion of the packaging schedule

Other

  • Record monthly inventory of all packaging materials
  • Provide support to warehouse/cellar/brewing departments as needed
  • Create and implement a maintenance plan for all packaging related equipment
  • Occasional evening and weekend work

Qualifications

  • 2+ years beer packaging or packaging in a related industry
  • Experience with a canning-line is required, preferably a CODI
  • Forklift license and experience driving a forklift
  • Knowledge of the fermentation process and a passion for the science of brewing
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in hot, cold and wet environments
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to recognise visual and audible cues signalling machinery performance issues 
  • Ability to delegate, lead the packaging crew by example and make difficult decisions when necessary 
  • Provide positive leadership throughout the organisation and ensure staff develops to their full potential
  • Ability to lift 20+kgs regularly 
  • Proficient in Google Drive, Google Suite and Excel
