Ostra Distillery is a Victorian-based operation that launched in 2008 and is currently growing fast. 

If you'd like to join them, they're hiring both a head brewer and a brewer.

Ostra Distillery is an established independent family-owned contract brewery & distillery that produces Vodka, Gin, GNS and various Whiskies. We contract produce for major brands and smaller boutique labels. Located in Robinvale, near Mildura, we have been operating in the heart of the Australian grape and grain growing industry since 2008. Ostra Distillery is in an exciting transformational phase to meet current and new contracts.  Working in a fun, friendly, and dynamic team, you will have the opportunity to help guide us through growth and expansion.

HEAD BREWER / TECHNICAL BREWER

The smooth and efficient running of our Brewhouse is essential to the success of our business. We are looking for someone who would enjoy the challenge of meeting our ambitious targets. You will be responsible for all brewing practices, daily production, inventory management, cleaning & maintenance of brewing facilities and all associated equipment and supplies. You need a demonstrated drive to improve and innovate as the business continues to grow, as well as the ability to train new Brewers as we expand production.

If you have a strong work ethic, excellent communication and organizational skills, good attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task, then this is the role for you. You must have a good understanding of quality assurance/quality control and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to troubleshoot any issues that may arise. You must also be physically fit and able to work well under pressure.

Qualifications & Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience working as a Brewer
  • Brewing qualifications and/or Science/Engineering qualifications desirable
  • Relevant industry certificates highly regarded and will be taken into consideration in lieu of formal qualifications
  • Experience in managing a brewery team ideal, but not essential
  • Good computer skills and ability to complete administrative paperwork and reporting 
  • A good understanding of Work Health & Safety

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Brew, process, and package to our Brewery specifications
  • Purchasing raw materials and keeping all production records
  • Checking brewing conditions and maintaining quality
  • Daily testing of all fermentations and recording of these.
  • Manage all brewhouse and cellar work in progress
  • Cleaning practices encompassing all equipment associated with production
  • Meet and report on departmental goals regarding costs, efficiencies and yields.

BREWER

We are seeking a Brewer on a permanent full-time basis to work under our Head Brewer. The Brewer will assist the Head Brewer with all brewing practices, daily production, inventory management, cleaning & maintenance of brewing facility and all associated equipment and supplies. We are seeking a team player with initiative and a strong work ethic. This is the perfect opportunity to develop necessary skills required in the brewing industry and to learn firsthand from an experienced Head Brewer. 

Qualifications & Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 1-2 years’ brewing experience 
  • Qualifications preferred but not necessary
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment 

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Brew, process, and package to our Brewery specifications
  • Receipt of raw materials and paperwork
  • Checking brewing conditions and maintaining quality
  • Daily testing of all fermentations and recording of these.
  • Manage work in progress to high standards
  • Cleaning of all equipment associated with production
  • Assist in bottling as required

Skills

  • Good communicator and team player
  • Strong work ethic and ability to multi task.
  • An understanding of quality assurance/quality control and problem-solving skills 
  • Physically fit and able to work in a demanding and high pressure environment
  • A good understanding of Work Health & Safety
