Kura Kura is a one-year-old brewery in Bali that's on a mission to bring more craft beer to the popular Indonesian island.

Job Description: Head Brewer

Kura Kura is a one-year-old brewery located in the beautiful mountains of central Bali. As one of the first and currently the largest producers of craft beer in Indonesia, we take great pride in what we do and want to continue to help the craft beer culture grow. Kura Kura also has plans to start producing hard seltzers so any experience in this area would be a big plus. 

Our brewery is equipped with a 2000L brewhouse, 6 x 4000L fermenters, 2 x 4000L bright tanks, 3 x horizontal 4000L bright tanks and plenty of space for expansion. 

Our preferred candidate will be seeking opportunities to grow alongside the brand and position ourselves as a respected, creative, and fun brewer in the region.

Duties: 

  • Operate and oversee all functions of the brewery, including; wort production, fermentation / cellaring process, canning QC & QA checks, CIP procedures, and detailed record-keeping via beer30. 
  • Develop and implement Brewery SOPs and ensure standards are always met. 
  • Ensure proper fermentation process, including handling of yeast, cell counts, pitch rates, etc. 
  • Manage inventory of raw materials, chemicals, etc. and updating via Beer30. 
  • Inventory management of finished goods, including clear communication with the sales team. 
  • Oversee daily maintenance and proper cleaning of all brewing equipment and buildings. 
  • Maintain an efficient brewing schedule, including brewing, packaging, cleaning, maintenance, etc. 
  • Work with the purchasing department to maintain good relationships with suppliers. 
  • Manage brewery team, train staff, schedule shifts, and encourage an overall positive environment. 
  • New product development, recipe creation, scaling, etc. 
  • Represent the brewery at local events, trade shows, festivals, etc. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years in a lead brewing position for a production brewery (at least 10 BBL/1000 L). 
  • A degree from an accredited brewing school or institute is a plus. 
  • Passion to create, innovate, and teach about craft beer. 
  • Organizational ability to manage all day-to-day operations of brewery production. 
  • Managerial skills to organize, guide, and supervise the production team. 
  • Mechanical and electrical problem-solving skills are a plus. 
  • Experience with a centrifuge is a plus. 
  • Flexibility to work long hours when needed to maintain production obligations. 
  • Ability to create consistent, timely production of core styles. 
  • Ability to safely work with common brewing chemicals. 
  • Packaging, racking, canning/bottling experience. 
  • Physical strength and stamina to repeatedly lift weights of at least 25 kg. 

Compensation: 

  • Salary compensation ranging from 36-58k USD (DOE) 
  • An additional range of benefits, including a relocation package, health insurance, and housing allowance, will be available for the right candidate.
