Brewer at Young Henrys

This posting is more than 1 year old

If you haven't been into Young Henrys recently, you might not have noticed that they've actually gotten pretty big. Well, big in relation to a lot of other small craft brewers, but still small when measured against the really big guys...

Anyway, their beer has become very popular and they've got a solid team of brewers making it, but they need another pair of hands to help them keep up with demand. So, if your hands are experienced, they could be the ones they need.

YOUNG HENRYS IS LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCED BREWER

Everybody thinks they want to be a brewer. It seems to be up there with working in a record shop as a job that people view as more perk than work. So, if you're about to apply and tell us you've never actually brewed before but you're a really fast learner, then this probably isn't the right job for you. You're gonna need some SKILLS.

Essentially, we're looking for someone with strong experience in brewing science and brewery operations. A tertiary brewing qualification or a food science background is preferable, however experience and knowledge is viewed with equal importance.

You’ll be a self-starter... a motivated, positive and passionate brewer whose flexibility makes you a reliable and supportive team member. You'll be responsible for upholding strict quality control expectations and ensure quality production techniques are maintained along with repeatability and consistency in our process.

You would assist in the production of existing recipes and help to refine/develop the production process and meet brewing schedule expectations. And we need someone who can play an active role in the further development of the workplace culture, and continue to grow with a rapidly growing company.

Here are some boxes we need you to tick:

  • A passion for brewing interesting seasonal brews
  • Adept at meeting production targets.
  • A focus on quality and consistency
  • Strong learning and problem solving ability
  • Have excellent hygiene practices and cleanliness in the brewery
  • Understanding of key quality parameters required to produce high quality beer.
  • Ability to work quickly and effectively whilst maintaining extremely high standards.
  • Capable of conducting quality checks & records.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent work ethic and capable of performing physically demanding tasks.
  • Excellent organisational skills and capable of performing all administrative tasks relevant to the beer brewing, including raw material ordering, quality control and packaging.
  • Technical knowledge in all applicable aspects of the brewing process.
  • Brew-house: Everything from raw material handling through to fermentation and conditioning, including dry hopping, carbonating and sanitation practices
  • Yeast understanding – handling/storage & maintenance
  • Strong mechanical understanding and background
  • Flexibility in working hours and days. The brewery and still operates 6/7 days per week, therefore weekend work may be required.
  • Willingness to represent the brewery at functions and events.

Tick all the boxes? If yes, we'd love to hear from you.

All applications will be treated as confidential and should be addressed to sam@younghenrys.com by close of business Friday March 4th.
