Bad Shepherd opened the doors of its Cheltenham brewpub and has been going great guns ever since, thanks to a combination of tasty beers and hearty food.
Now they're looking for a brewer to join them team and help them meet demand.
JOB DESCRIPTION: BREWER
We are Bad Shepherd Brewing Co, a microbrewery and BBQ smokehouse located in the Bayside suburb of Cheltenham, Victoria. We’re passionate about the simple things in life, like good craft beer and comfort food, with a strong focus on quality and customer service. Whether at our brewery or through our bottles in people’s homes, we’re here to make beer that is tasty, interesting and fulfilling. That’s the way beer should be.
To that end, we are currently seeking a dynamic and dedicated brewer to join our team. Our ideal candidate will have a moderate level of experience with the opportunity to step up as a leader in a growing business.
About the role:
This role is fast paced and physically demanding but if brewing and craft beer is your passion, you will find this an extremely rewarding opportunity.
You will be expected to be able to function autonomously as a brewer leading brewing, cleaning, packaging and regular brewery maintenance. Concurrently we are focused on developing our staff to continually enhance their requisite skill sets. You will have the opportunity to grow into Operations Management with training in forecasting, brewery scheduling, recipe development, quality control/labwork, etc. In order to meet our production demands, you will be required to be flexible in your schedule across weekdays and weekends.
Depending upon brewery demand levels, you may be required to work one to two days per week in a bartending/hospitality capacity.
About you:
In order to be successful in this role, we expect that you would possess the following attributes:
- Minimum one year of commercial brewing experience working independently in brewing, cleaning, packaging and maintenance roles
- A comprehensive knowledge of and passion for craft beer
- Ability to multi task and work in a fast paced production environment whilst maintaining accuracy, attention to detail and best practice at all times
- Understanding the importance and application of sanitation practices in the brewing and manufacturing process
- Mechanical aptitude & problem solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Strong cultural fit with a fun loving but hard working attitude
- Most importantly, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, who is interested in working collaboratively with us, not just for us.
Whilst formal qualifications are not a strict requirement, a degree in Brewing, Brewing Science, Chemistry, Microbiology or Engineering would be a distinct advantage.
