The Public Brewery combines its own brewery with a series of 50 L set up small batch Bruce that allow visitors to come and brew their own beer.

Now the owners are looking for an experienced head brewer who can head up brewing operations on their own system as well as pass on their knowledge to guest brewers.

Job Description – Head Brewer

The Public Brewery, located in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, is looking for an experienced Head Brewer to join our team.

We are looking for someone who not only has a passion for beer but can also pass that knowledge on to the general public.

As a brewery which will have public use facilities we require someone who has great interpersonal skills and is willing to be an educator as well as a brewer. You will have access to experiment with making different small batch brews based on your own recipes for sale on-site.

The successful applicant will be given extensive training on our new state of the art equipment and will be responsible for:

  • Creating and implementing standard operating procedures
  • Recipe design and development
  • Staff education and training
  • Quality management
  • Production scheduling
  • Quoting/costing for production
  • Administrative tasks relevant to beer brewing, including raw material ordering, alcohol excise reports and packaging

Skills and key qualifications required by the role:

  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Administrative skills relevant to beer brewing and packaging
  • Ability to problem solve and work creatively
  • Must have minimum three years commercial brewery experience with relevant references
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate, or the ability to gain one
  • Tertiary qualification is preferable, but not essential

This is a permanent full-time role (subject to a three month probationary period), initially a Wednesday to Sunday roster.
