Southern Bay is one of Australia's longest running independent breweries, with a history that stretches back to the late 1980s. 

They've just launched a new look and new beers and are looking to hire a brewery manager to brew them.

Job Description: Brewery Manager

The Southern Bay Brewery is looking for an experienced brewery manager or head brewer to run the complete operations of the brewery.  The brewery commenced operations in 1988 and is proudly based in Geelong, Victoria. As well as producing a range of our own award-winning beers, we contract brew and pack beer and other non-beer products for external customers.

This is a pivotal role in the brewery and you will be assisting the general manager and Directors with the direction of the brewery.  We seek a dynamic professional who will represent the brand and establish appropriate standards as we move forward. A highly motivated person with brewery experience is required to guide, mentor and direct the operations of the brewery.

We require a Manager with passion and integrity to roll up their sleeves to get the job done. To be successful with your job application you are required to demonstrate the following:

  • A passion for the Australian craft beer industry.
  • At least five years management experience in a small to medium sized brewery and packing operation.
  • Qualifications as a trained brewer.
  • Experience with managing the quality assurance program and keeping the products up to specification.  This includes lab testing and ensuring appropriate systems are in place to keep the product safe and hygienic.
  • Experience with scheduling production and ensuring that all ingredients and packing materials are obtained on time and economically.
  • Working with KPIs for quality and brewhouse performance.
  • Experience with managing, mentoring and directing staff.
  • Experience with the development and application of safety standards and procedures in a manufacturing operation.
  • Ability to negotiate with ingredient suppliers and formulate long term relationships.
  • Solid mechanical and electrical understanding with an ability to work with and direct maintenance contractors.
  • Experience with research and the development of products and the improvement of existing products.
  • Experience with quoting and costing of products.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capability.
  • Experience with HACCP and ISO standards would be desirable.
