Job Description: Brewery Production Manager

If you know anything about us, you have no doubt gathered that we do things differently at Good George Brewing. We own some bars and restaurants that serve good beer and cider and great food. We dabble in alternative brews like fruit sours and barrel ageing, and we also do a pretty sharp IPA by all accounts! We’ve innovated with our Tank-beer project and developed a unique 946ml Squealer bottle that’s like nothing else out in the market.

This is a key role at the brewery and carries a lot of responsibility. Reporting to the Head Honcho, The Production Manager must ensure that we consistently produce high quality beer and cider, on time, and on budget.

The role encompasses all facets of production management with particular emphasis on a hands-on approach to brewing and management of the whole production process from raw materials to finished product – bottles, can and keg.

Leading a passionate and growing team, the successful candidate requires at least five years brewing management experience in a similar role, with a tertiary education being highly desirable. You will need to have a ‘can do’ attitude, a details focus, and an incomparable ability to problem solve on the run.

Primary job responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise brewing production from start to finish
  • Create and deliver production schedules across brewing, maturation, filtration and packaging
  • Work with the quality manager to create recipes and maintain consistently high quality standards
  • Manage the costs of production to budget and cost per litre targets
  • Provide leadership and training to team members in the brewing and packaging departments in a lead by example fashion, employing best practice for all brewing functions
  • Drive brewery operations continuous improvement programme to deliver improvement in quality, efficiency and cost saving
  • Take a best in practice leadership approach to health and safety systems and process operating in the Brewery to ensure our team and customers are safe
  • Attend and facilitate brewery staff meetings in a leadership capacity – own all decision making situations as needed – issue resolution and crisis management.

 To be successful in this position, you will have the following skills / knowledge and experience:

  • A formal brewing qualification (IBD or similar) and five years minimum experience managing a commercial brewery production line
  • Possess a well-rounded knowledge of brewing and beer styles beer knowledge, formal taste panel experience is preferred.
  • Strong problem solving abilities especially around brewing and production, packaging equipment.
  • A proven ability to lead and develop a high performing team.
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management
  • A high level of competency in Microsoft Office and Excel and inventory/production management software.
  • Experience in managing and monitoring Workplace Safety and adherence to governmental and food-safe regulations
