Amazing things are happening in the world of Australian beer. Across the country, new breweries, beer bars and bottleshops dedicated to uniquely crafted beer are opening every month. The range and variety of styles on offer to the Aussie drinker has never been greater. And it’s only the beginning…
Ten years ago – heck, even two years ago – few would have predicted the current state of play: bars offering 20 taps of different beer – and not one of them a commercial lager; bottleshops with entire walls lined with homegrown beers; brewers producing 13% triple-fermented Belgian beers in champagne bottles; drinkers willing to give them all a try.
From today, it should get a little easier to navigate this brave new world with the launch of The Crafty Pint. After several months dawdling along as a blog, the butterfly has shed its chrysalis. Now you’ll find in-depth listings for dozens of craft breweries, bars and bottleshops, updates on the latest limited release beers, news on forthcoming beer-related events and features on all aspects of the flourishing Australian craft beer scene.
Initially, we’re focusing on Victoria for practical reasons. Firstly, we’re based there and are keen to have visited every place we feature. Secondly, if any one place sums up just how fast things are changing for beer in Australia, it’s Victoria. Having said that, we know there are places within Victoria not yet listed on the site, but these and a host of yet-to-open places will be added over the coming days and weeks; we’ll blame the temporary omissions on the fact the main driving force behind The Crafty Pint was run over less than three months ago and is lucky to be here at all.
