Craft Beer For Brisbane

Elton John once regaled us with the Circle of Life. So how about the Circle of Beer? Just a couple of weeks after Brisbane saw the craft beer offerings at one bar severely reduced, another venue pops up promising to offer sustenance to the city’s good beer folk. The London Club, in Teneriffe, launches its new craft beer menu this Friday, featuring around 40 beers and a handful of ciders, all part of a change in direction from its previous life as a wine and champagne bar.

Since new owners came in last November, Burleigh Brewing has installed a couple of taps, while appearing on the bottle list are beers from Murray's, Holgate, Bridge Road, Little Creatures and White Rabbit plus brewing company Endeavour. The bar will also be stocking Old Mout ciders.

“On Friday, we’ll have four of five reps coming in showcasing each of their beers. It will be a good opportunity for people to learn about the individual beers,” says co-owner Anthony Griffiths, who says they’re also giving the venue a revamp. “Inside it’s like an old English pub – warm and cosy. We’ve also got seating under umbrellas outside where it’s nice to enjoy a beer with the breeze coming off the river.”

There will be special offers and canapes on the night, which kicks off at 5pm at 38 Vernon Terrace, Newstead. Here’s hoping they can make a success of it as craft beer has a long way to go to gain any traction in the Brisbane (and wider Queensland) market. If you do head down, we’d be keen to hear what you make of it.
