Events Wrap 14.10.16

The heart and soul of the beer world is currently on display in Adelaide as the Australian National Homebrewing Conference is well underway, with its myriad of international guests having flown in to join local brewers and, most importantly, the next generation of dedicated homebrewers to revel in everything that's good about beer. Conferences are thirsty work of course, so it's just as well The Wheaty is one of the event's major sponsors, the official post-conference venue and that its in-house brewery has created, and is now pouring, several new beers for the occasion.

They'll be pouring a new one from Bridge Road's offshoot too, as the 100 percent Brettanomyces pale ale from the foeder of Mayday Hills gets its first outing before the Melbourne launch the following day as part of a Bridge Road tap takeover at Carwyn Cellars. In similarly funky beer territory, the Dutch Trading Co may not have hosted Zwanze Day this year but has gone close to capturing the spirit with its Wild & Sour Day.

There's a heap of tap takeovers on offer in the near future as Stockade launches in Brisbane, Welsh champs Tiny Rebel are centre of attention at Harts, Dainton channels 90s nostalgia by launching its range of tinnies with a Tekken tournament, Boatrocker is having a birthday party and taking over The Terminus, Black Hops gets free reign at Bine Bar, The Local Taphouse in St Kilda has snaffled ten IPAs from New Zealand, the gypsy brewed, barrel-aged and farmyard funked beers of Almanac get an outing at Brewski before the same venue gets all Kranski, then gets all un-Australian by saying: "Screw the Melbourne Cup, we're pouring heaps of Garage Project beers instead!"

In festival action, the long-running Australian Hotel Beer Fest will once again bring the sunshine to The Rocks in Sydney where the city's Craft Beer Week is only a week away. We're bringing Pint of Origin: Schooner Edition to the party and you can read all about it here.

Warners at the Bay is lining up the tenth edition of its legendary festival, the Brewers Feast in Victoria is fast approaching (with Crafty Cabal VIP offers up for grabs), the Freo BeerFest is less than a month away (with free tickets for Crafty Cabal members there too), Esk BeerFest will be going bigger and better in Launceston (yep, free stuff for Crafty Cabal members at that one as well) and Otway Estate brings to a close this year's major Oktoberfest events – not withstanding Ale Stars which features Munich brewers and the Oktoberfest-esque luncheon and Helles lager launch from Grifter (pictured at top) and LP's Quality Meats.

Closing with a do-good, feel-good event, the Amber Affair is back in 2016 for its 15th year – if you want to have a good time drinking good beer while raising money for the Sydney Children's Hospital, get involved now.
