Taphouse Retains Title

The Local Taphouse has been named Best Specialty Beer Venue for the second year running at the Australian Bar Awards. It picked up the award at Bartender Magazine’s glitzy award ceremony in the Grand Ballroom at Sydney’s Hilton Hotel – the event that marks the culmination of Bar Show Week.

The first Taphouse opened in St Kilda in 2008 with the second site in Darlinghurst, which won last night’s award, following last year. They tear through 200 beers a year on their 20 taps and host a number of popular nights, such as the Ale Stars beer appreciation nights, as well as organising beery road trips for their regular punters.

Also shortlisted for the prize were Melbourne newcomer Biero Bar and stalwart Cookie, as well as Adelaide’s hop-loving Wheaty, The Spotted Cow in Toowomba and Sydney’s Epoque Belgian Beer Cafe.
