The local market is always a good place to sample tasty produce: a little cheese, the odd pickle or two – and now beer. Matilda Bay will be setting up shop in Melbourne’s Prahran Market and Sydney’s Eveleigh Market next month (October) to offer shoppers the chance to try their beers matched with food from the local artisan producers.
The Brewer’s Bite events will offer the chance to sample the beers while picking the brains of the brewers who made them. Anyone over 18 can head along for a complimentary tasting* matched with fresh seasonal market produce.
Matilda Bay’s head brewer Scott Vincent says: âFor years we’ve known that the right wine with the right dish can greatly enhance the dining experience and now with craft beers gaining a real following in Australia, we’re starting to see people take a genuine interest in learning about the versatility of beer. We’re happy to share some of our best brewer’s knowledge on how to match our beers with different types of food and flavours.â
Beers on offer include the North American style pale ale Fat Yak, Munich style lager Big Helga and honey wheat brew Beez Neez. Matilda Bay brewers will help market goers learn about the three Cs of beer and food matching – complement, contrast and cleanse, all important when deciding what beer to match with a particular recipe. Matilda Bay is the craft beer arm of the Foster’s group, based in Dandenong, and offers a range of different styles and flavours that can be paired with a wide range of meals.
Brewer’s Bite is at Prahran Market on October 9 and 10 from 10am to 4pm.
It is at Eveleigh Market on October 30 from 9am to 1pm.
