A month on from the last additions, we’re delighted to welcome half a dozen newcomers to The Crafty Pint. As of today, you’ll find listings for Hix Brewery, who some of you will recall picked up a gold medal at this year’s Australian International Beer Awards, as well as three bars and a couple of bottleshops. The bars are Hotel Spencer, in West Melbourne, Rusty Water, on Phillip Island, and The Dispensary Enoteca, in Bendigo. The bottleshops are Nillumbik Cellars, in Diamond Creek, and McCoppins, who have a number of stores in Melbourne with the largest beer offering found at the one in Fitzroy.

All six are committed to craft beer in their own way, with Hix part of a growing craft beer culture on the Mornington Peninsula, Rusty Water offering an alternative to the mainstream on Phillip Island (and hoping to open a brewery in the future) and the others broadening the choice of drinkers in Melbourne and further afield.

As you’ll have noticed, they’re all also in Victoria, which means that the jibes from Pinchgut brewer Gerard Meares about Crafty’s rather Vic-centric map of the world are as valid as ever. That said, we’ll be in Sydney and NSW next month to visit more venues that have expressed an interest in taking listings, hope to revisit Tassie in November, may well be in SA over the holiday period and are eyeing WA with a saucy glint in our eye for early 2012.

In the meantime, we beg your patience please. We do hope to work out a way of becoming truly comprehensive (if that’s possible) in our efforts to bring the wide – and growing – world of Aussie craft beer to your door as soon as possible. It is a bloody big place though…
