And. They're. Off!

The biggest and best opportunity yet for Sydneysiders to indulge their love of craft beer – and for newcomers to find out what all the fuss is about – is underway. The inaugural Sydney Craft Beer Week runs from today (October 22) until next Saturday, with more than 20 events taking place at venues across the city. First up is a Beef & Beer Masterclass at Mumu Grill, with a Brewers Feast – complete with Medieval garb – following at Harts Pub this afternoon.

Inspired by the success of May’s Good Beer Week in Melbourne, the organisers hope the eight-day event will act as a showcase for the burgeoning craft beer scene in Sydney and also help attract a few new drinkers to the quality beer cause.

Todd Venning, from online beer show Beermen.tv, which has been the driving force behind the festival, says: “Craft beer is all about artisan breweries creating flavoursome, all natural brews. Worldwide the movement is experiencing phenomenal growth as a ‘flight to quality’ gains momentum and people move away from unadventurous mainstream beers and the limited flavours available in wine.

“Sydney Craft Beer Week is designed to appeal to both hardcore ‘beer nerds’ and new recruits to the craft. With more than 20 events across the week there will be something to ‘wet’ every appetite in what is the first of its kind for Sydney.”
