Crafty Snaps: Stone & Wood's Stone Brew 2012

In what is becoming something of an Aussie craft beer institution, Stone & Wood invited a collection of beer folks – writers, bloggers, bar owners and their friends and family – to their Byron Bay home for the annual Stone Beer brew. It was a case of all hands on deck as they invited their guests to help build the fire to heat head brewer Brad Rogers' volcanic stones from Fiji, add ingredients to mash tun and push the odd button to put the beer through the brewhouse.

Each year, the beer has been tweaked a little from the last one, but never as much as this time, which sees a whole new grain bill and the aim of creating an eight per cent beer. In previous years, the Stone Beer has always come in at 5.3 per cent, but now that all the old labels are used up (!!!) they’ve opted for a pretty serious change of direction, with this year’s release coming hot on the heels of another big beer, the first Mash Collective release Amasia.

For more on the story behind the beer, you can read Chris McBeer’s story on the 2011 brew. Or you can simply press play below and watch this year’s beer take shape.
