James Halliday Article: Aussies Taking Off

This week we’ve filed our latest feature for James Halliday’s Wine Companion Magazine – a look at the growing interest in wild and sour beers in Australia. We sought input from Richard Watkins, the former Champion Brewer from Canberra’s Wig & Pen Tavern who is now building his own BentSpoke Brewpub, Matt Houghton from Boatrocker Brewery and Jade Flavell at The Wheaty.

As has become customary, we thought we’d use the occasion to dip into the vault containing past articles we’ve written for the magazine. This time around, it’s one we wrote around this time last year looking at how Australia’s beer and hop industry is faring overseas and how the local scene is viewed from abroad, rather timely with Craft Beer Rising just around the corner.

It features:

  • The thoughts of Brad Rogers, from Stone & Wood
  • Brendan Varis from Feral
  • Kjetil Jikiun from Nøgne Ø
  • Eric Ottaway from Brooklyn Brewery
  • Dominic Kelly from Wellington’s “Cult Beer Bar” Hashigo Zake
