Crafty Gets Tapped

Crafty Gets Tapped

A few months back, we caught up with a chap who had just launched a new app designed to help beer lovers find out what was on tap at their local venues. It took all of, oh, two minutes for the mind to wander towards thoughts of how this could be integrated with The Crafty Pint. There have been a number of means of supplying such information to ardent beer fanciers in recent years, but Now Tapped seemed the best of them.

Since we ran a story on the fledgling project, it has been significantly enhanced and has also enjoyed a wide take up from beer bars and breweries, mostly on the East Coast. And now the brainchild of Angus Bremner (brother of one-third of 7 Cent Brewery) has been integrated with our site.

Head to any of the venue or brewery pages on The Crafty Pint that have an Official Tap List on Now Tapped (in other words, one that is maintained by the venue's staff rather than estimated by Untappd check-ins) and you'll find their tap list embedded there. And you can now access Crafty Pint venue, brewery and bottleshop pages (for those that have them) via their listing on Now Tapped.

On the old Crafty Pint site, we'd embedded Twitter feeds in an attempt to achieve something similar but this new hook up will provide visitors to the site with a better chance of finding limited release beers. For example, if we've listed a new beer here with stockists, you'll now be able to check on their Crafty page to see whether a particular venue has tapped it and, if so, how recently.

As for Now Tapped itself, Angus says it's been "growing in leaps and bounds".

"We now host tap lists for more than 120 venues Australia wide, with new venues signing up each week. Currently, there are more 1,200 crafty taps to browse."

He says users now number in the thousands, feedback has been "very positive" and he continues to work on improvements while providing a free service.

Improvements introduced since the July article include more detailed tap lists and improved storing of favourites.

Tap lists can now be shared by text, email or social media from within the app and he has added venue images (you may recognise some from here) to give each tap list a unique touch.

Future updates will include more app improvements plus additional integration with Untappd.

"For a long time, The Crafty Pint has been the ultimate resource for finding all things craft beer," he adds.

"We are excited to be able to team up in order to provide our users with some of the wealth of information available on the Crafty Pint website.

"Also for us to be able to have our tap lists displayed on the Crafty Pint venue listings is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure as well as keep Crafty readers updated with what's on tap."

Beer lovers can find out how to get the app (Android or iOS) on the Now Tapped website, where venues and breweries can find out how to sign up too. You can also access the latest tap lists via the site itself.
