Great Aussie SpecTAPular

Details of next year’s Great Aussie SpecTAPular have been announced, including the full list of brewers taking part and some of the one-off beers they’re making for the event. Highlights include a pair of collaborative brews (between Hargreaves Hill and Red Hill, and SA’s Brewboys and Lobethal Bierhaus), a Belgian Red Ale brewed with cranberries and whiskey-soaked cherries, a jasmine-infused India Pale Ale, a Coconut Brown Ale, a kellerbier matured on roasted oak chips, a Belgian Wit Raspberry beer with coriander and sweet orange peel and a Chocolate Chilli Porter.

It’s the latest – and most exciting – SpecTAPular from The Local Taphouse, whose owners have invited a roll call of Australia's best craft breweries to create a special "festival" beer for the occasion. They’re drawn from six states and include a mix of established names, lesser known names with a penchant for out there experimentation and a couple of yet-to-open breweries.

The 22 participating breweries are:

QLD – Burleigh Brewing
NSW – Murray’s, 4 Pines, Stone & Wood, Hunter Beer Co, Doctor’s Orders
WA – Feral, Last Drop, Mash Brewing
VIC – Mountain Goat, Bridge Road, Hargreaves Hill/Red Hill collaboration, Otway Estate, Jamieson, Moondog, Kooinda, Holgate, Thunder Road
SA – Brew Boys and Lobethal Brewing collaboration
ACT – Wig & Pen

Other beers on the lineup include a Maibock strong lager, an Organic Blueberry Hefeweizen, a Traditional Bitter, Double Belgian Wheat Ale and a strong Scotch Ale (aka Wee Heavy).

"To have a lineup of beers from these breweries any day of the week would be a treat but to have them brewing a festival beer just for our summer SpecTAPular is nothing short of phenomenal," says Guy Greenstone, co-founder of The Local Taphouse in Melbourne and Sydney. "This is going to be a very historic day for not only me but an army of craft beer lovers!"€

Both events run from midday to 1am at The Local Taphouses at 184 Carlisle Street, East St Kilda, Melbourne, and 120 Flinders Street, Darlinghurst, Sydney. For more info, visit their website.
