More Gold For Redoak

Just last week, we reported on the success enjoyed by Australian brewers at the UK’s largest beer awards. Hawthorn Brewing Company, 4 Pines and Redoak all picked up golds at the International Beer Challenge, with Hawthorn adding a trophy for best ale over five per cent and Redoak collecting the Supreme Champion gong for its Special Reserve. You can read all about that here.

For Redoak, however, the overseas success has continued. Last night in Munich, Germany, the results of this year’s European Beer Star were announced at Drinktec. The competition attracted more than 1,500 entries from all over the world. And Sydney’s Redoak collected two golds to add to the five from the UK.

“This prize is particularly special for us,” says brewery co-owner and brewer David Hollyoak. “To win gold for our Schwarzbier and Winter in the Rye, two traditional German beer styles, in Munich, is one of my proudest brewing moments. To achieve this up against some of the finest brewers and beers in the world and to win in their country of origin is very humbling.”

Beers from 40 countries were submitted for the 2013 competition, where they were judged by a committee of 102 people during an all-day blind taste test held in the Doemens Brewing Academy in Gräfelfing. Only one gold is awarded in each of the 51 categories judged, which only include styles with origins in Europe.

David says both the Schwarzbier and Winter in the Rye Bock will be on tap during Oktoberfest at the Redoak Boutique Beer Cafe.

We’ll add the full results from the European Beer Star as soon as we have them.

Next up in the world of beer awards will be the Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Show, for which judging takes place this week.
