Hot on the heels of their hazy IPA-centric limited series, Cheeky Monkey are now indulging drinkers with another series drawing inspiration from the sort of tasty treats more commonly touted by artisan bakers and pastry chefs.
The first release, in what will hopefully be a lengthy run to get punters through a cold winter, is a choc-chip oatmeal cookie pastry stout, loaded with a decadent amount of toasted oats, rye malt and lactose, plus a few packets of actual oat cookies. Brewed to satisfy the sweetest of teeth, Cheeky Monkey’s rendition of the increasingly popular style is awash with toasty biscuit character, generous sweetness and a thick, silky body that supports a moderate 6.8 percent ABV and carries malt richness into a lasting, chocolaty finish.
Cheeky Monkey’s bakery-inspired stout might not have the texture and chew of a typical cookie, but much like the commonplace sweet treat you’ll likely find yourself craving more. Conveniently, the cookies have been added to the boil and the packet already discarded to reduce your guilt.
