Carwyn Cellars Head Back To Black

Everyone loves surprises and most beer geeks love little more than diving deep into a luxuriant, dark beast of a beer when we hit the depths of winter.

So how about combining the two – surprises and beastly beers – as the mercury starts to dip?

That's the ethos behind Carwyn Cellar's Black Box series: a dozen beers from some of Australia's top indie breweries presented in a mystery box set to be opened one day at a time from July 1 to 12.

The 2024 edition has just been launched and is expected to sell out soon – at time of writing around 65 percent had been snapped up, and the presale had only just ended.

So, if you'd like to get your hands on what the bottleshop team says is filled with "barrel-aged brutes, pastry monsters, boozy barleywines and a few other delicious dark surprises" – with an average ABV around 11 percent – then you'd best not hang about.

Each box costs $195 plus shipping (free if you pick up from the Thornbury store) and you can check out the brewer lineup below, even if the identity of the 12 beers is being kept under wraps.

There is one other way to get a Black Box into your eager mitts for free, however: we're giving one away to one of our Crafty Cabal beer club members.

For your chance to win one, make sure you sign in or sign up here or via The Crafty Pint app and throw your hat into the ring before May 15 when we'll pick the winner at random and notify them via email.

Good luck!
