Presumably, if you'd told Jayne Lewis and Danielle Allen as they prepared to launch Two Birds Brewing that, five years down the line, they'd have national recognition, have managed the transition from contract brewer to owners of a splendid brewery and bar seamlessly, been named Champion Large Craft Brewery (twice) and AIBA Champion Medium Australian Brewery, won numerous golds and trophies here and abroad for their beers and (in the case of Danielle and her husband) brought a child into the world, they'd have taken it – or possibly laughed you out of the room as a crazed dreamer.
It's fair to say that, in an industry full of success stories, theirs is one of the most sparkling. And now they'd like you to share in celebrating it as they turn five.
In typical Two Birds fashion, they're not doing things by halves: there's a few days of celebrations lined up around their Spotswood Nest, no less than three new beers coming out and $5 beers at venues across the country. There's also the chance to win an all expenses trip to The Nest – see below.
Among the new beers are two birthday beers designed to epitomise Danielle and Jayne. The former is represented by PX, a Belgian dubbel style beer inspired by Pedro Ximenez that's been fermented with three specially selected Belgian yeast strains while also featuring raisins, muscatels, cinnamon quills, ground cloves and toasted French oak.
Anyone that's spent time with Jayne of an evening will know she's a fan of gin and tonic, so her beer is a G&T IPA brewed with botanicals of juniper berries, pepperberries, angelica root and coriander seed as well as cinchona bark, allspice and grapefruit peel.
THE BIRTHDAY BASH
Those two are tapped for the first time at the Two Birds Nest on Thursday, June 16, with the main birthday bash taking place on Saturday, from midday to 11pm.
Highlights include:
- 12 taps of Two Birds beer, including new seasonal, Oatmeal Stout
- $5 Golden Ale & Sunset Ale schooners all day
- Two Birds resident DJ Larrabee playing sets inspired by Jayne and Danielle’s journey
- "Random Acts Of Kindness" throughout the day, including beer, merchandise & gift voucher giveaways, just for being at the right place at the right time!
- A celebration-inspired menu by the Two Birds chef, Matt Beard, matched to the birthday beers.
- Specialty beer inspired sweet treats…because you only turn 5 once!
If you can't make it along, the seasonal and specialty beers are appearing elsewhere after the celebrations are over. And, if you head to one of the venues below between June 13 and 19 you can enjoy $5 schooners (or the closest size in that venue) of Golden Ale and Sunset Ale; they'll be pouring the birthday beers from June 16 too:
