Hemingway's Brewery operates two locations in Far North Queensland: the original in Port Douglas and a newer brewpub in Cairns.  The team at the the latter is looking for a new brewer to join the ranks and here's what you need to know about the role.

Job Description: Brewer

Hemingway's Brewery consists of two breweries, one situated on the beautiful Marina in Port Douglas and the second is the recently opened and larger Brewery in Cairns featuring a 35HL DME Brewhouse nestled inside the heritage listed cruise liner terminal building situated right on the on the waterfront.  Hemingway's is the first of its kind in Far North Queensland and offers a relaxed vibe where you can enjoy handcrafted beers suited to the tropical climate and fresh local produce. Our bar experience provides a fantastic proving ground for our innovation program and the instant feedback is invaluable.

Our ambition is to bring locals and travelers together in fantastic locations to enjoy well crafted, high quality, freshly brewed beer. We intend to keep innovating and growing the business both locally and overseas.

These bold ambitions require great people to achieve and for this reason we have hired a highly qualified and capable team. Now we are looking for another enthusiastic brewer who is passionate about craft beer and willing to work as a team player to consistently produce innovative and quality products. The right person will head up the Cairns brewing operation reporting directly to the Head Brewer.

Qualities we are looking for:

  • A team player who can actively support the Hemingway’s vision
  • A strong work ethic and willingness to go the ‘extra mile’
  • A high attention to detail
  • A sense of humour and able to tell a good yarn whilst consuming your favourite Hemingway’s brew.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service focus
  • Strong and healthy (work will involve heavy lifting)
  • A willingness to participate with our beer festivals and other events
  • Someone able to share their beer knowledge and passion with our customers.

You will have:

  • Previous commercial brewing experience
  • Ideally a recognised brewing qualification
  • A science or engineering background would be advantageous
  • A mechanically minded disposition
  • A good understanding of Work Health & Safety
  • Computer literacy
  • A current RSA
