In recent times you might've seen the odd beer from the Holgate Brewhouse with the phrase "Tank 9" on it. What's so special about Tank 9, you ask?
Well, it's the last little tank left in a brewery which has otherwise been filled with slightly larger ones, so it's been designated as the go-to tank for experimental brews. Apparently as early Christmas present to his four brewers, founder Paul Holgate invited each of them to create whatever beer they wanted and release it under the Tank 9 label.
The ensuing four beers forming what's become the Tank 9: Brew Loose series will all be tapped together at Beer DeLuxe Hawthorn on Sunday November 29. All the brewers will be there to show off their new babies:
- Tyger Tyger - English IPA
- Unflemished - Belgian IPA
- How Now - Brown Ale
- Beet Afraid - Beetroot, Smoked Lager
Rounding out the range to a healthy half dozen, the Norton Lager and Mt Macedon Pale Ale will be on the taps too.
There's no need to book ahead for this one – just turn up, hand over $20 and you'll be given a tasting paddle featuring all four of the new Tank 9 beers and a pot of nuts, followed by a pot of any of the six Holgate beers available on the day.
