Good beer never sleeps. It just keeps on keepin' on. It might be more than 250 days until Good Beer Week 2014 returns to Melbourne and Victoria, but for those who can’t wait that long there is salvation. It takes the shape of the inaugural Good Beer Showcase, which will be held over two evenings at Ormond Hall in St Kilda Road next month.
Tickets for the Showcase are on sale now. The event features up to 25 Victorian brewers with their own stands and capacity for 400 punters on each night. It takes place on October 9 and 10, right in the middle of the GBW 2014 event registration period which opens on October 1. This has allowed the festival organisers to host a trade session on the first afternoon at which the entire Good Beer Week team will be on hand to answer questions from anyone planning to take part in next year’s festival.
Good Beer Week event manager Siobhan Kerin says: “It’s a great time of the year to get together and celebrate great beer before the madness of summer descends.
“And, with Good Beer Week 2014 registrations opening on October 1, we thought this was a great opportunity to invite anyone interested in taking part in next year’s festival to come down, meet the team and bounce their ideas off us too.”
There are 400 tickets available for the two evening sessions, which run from 4.30pm to 8.30pm. On October 9, the trade session runs from 2pm to 4pm. Anyone wishing to attend this session must register their spot by emailing the organisers.
This inaugural Showcase will feature all Victorian brewers, but Good Beer Week has plans to expand the event in size and scope to become more representative of the festival as a whole when the Showcase returns in March.
For anyone wanting to come along and sample the best of Victorian craft beer, tickets cost $25pp. This gets attendees entry to Ormond Hall, 20 tasting tokens (for 60ml samples) and a voucher for a free drink with any food purchase at Village Melbourne, Ormond Hall’s sister venue on the same site.
