Pilsner is a beer style that’s somewhat hidden in plainsight for many craft beer drinkers. There you are, exploring the world of hops through hazy and tropical hops and then you order a pilsner, are stopped dead in your tracks and go, “No wonder these have been so popular for so long.”
Cypher Brewing’s Plainsight Pilsner is certainly a classic, with the beer using a pilsner malt base from Weyermann, Spalter Select hops. Having said that, it also makes use of the newer German variety, Calista to drive some subtle hints of berry and citrus. But beyond those more New World hop notes, it’s all a classic mix of fresh bread, spiced hops, a light touch of sulphur and a touch of bitternes that’s hiding in plainsight too.
