"So, what sort of lager is it?"
"It's just a lager."
"No, I mean, is it a Munich helles style, a pilsner?"
"It's just an easy-drinking lager."
Thus went the conversation when Hawkers' national sales manager dropped in with samples of the brewery's two new cans. And a glance at the side of the Lager can reveals little more. It's a bloody lager, mate; just get it into ya (we may be paraphrasing slightly).
That said, there's more to it than that. Sure, there's nothing out of the ordinary, but it's not a simple soft and malty affair; there's some floral, pollen like aromas, some herbal hop flavours and a drying, spicy bitterness alongside its simple, cracker malt flavours. There's a decent body for its mere 4.2 percent ABV too.
But, yes, it is a lager.
