The world’s heating up, there is a war in Europe, the impacts of the pandemic are still being felt and it feels like a federal election has been going for about 100 days. In such times of change, it can be a good thing to have a beer you can really set your calendar to. Hargreaves Hill’s annual R.I.S. is such a beer, with the imperial stout being a regular favourite among The Crafty Pint team for the way it consistently combines such a rich web of flavours. However, even this old favourite has changed somewhat, with the word “Russian” dropped out of respect for those impacted by the conflict in Ukraine.
But what hasn’t shifted is the beer, with RIS 2021 having spent enough time patiently sitting idle for the Hargreaves crew to decide it's ready to make it into the world. The beer’s also just as decadent as ever and combines a rich swirl of chocolate fudge, molasses, licorice and stewed figs, with more roasted elements of espresso coffee and a building bitterness. Welcome back RIS - a bit of stability is always nice.
