Beer will appear at the WA Good Food Guide Awards for the first time in 2020.
The Beer of the Year Award is a new trophy which recognises the growth and innovation of the West Australian brewing industry.
The beer judging panel is led by none other than Guy Southern, regular Crafty Pint writer and a beer industry consultant. He's joined by Pia Poynton of Nowhereman, Elliot Moore from Besk and Mane Liquor, and Will Irving, formerly head brewer at Feral and a longstanding and respected beer judge.
The beer award is open to beers and ciders released during the 2020 calendar year (ie from January 1 to August 31, 2020) with only Western Australian beers and ciders considered. Brewers are required to include at least two core range / regularly available beers as part of their submission.
The awards take a different tack to more traditional beer and wine competitions: the winning drinks will always be the best on the day, with judges considering quality, innovation, modern tastes, drinkability and new approaches to beer and wine within their charter.
The winner will sit at the head of a list of 25, ranked by the judges following rigorous blind tasting and discussion. All 25 will receive publicity across WA Good Food Guide's media, internet and social media platforms.
Deadline for submissions is August 28, 2020.
