Deadline Day For The 2024 Young Henrys Brewing Scholarship

Anyone wishing to apply for the 2024 Young Henrys Brewing Scholarship has until February 29 to submit their applications.

The scholarship, now in its third year, is open to all women, female-identifying individuals, and non-binary beer enthusiasts enrolled in the 2024 TAFE NSW Brewing Course.

The Crafty Pint is excited to be partnering with the Newtown brewers to help bring awareness of the opportunity to a wider audience. Blundstone are also partners, providing the winning applicant with a pair of work boots as part of a $10,000 scholarship package.

It sees Young Henrys continues their commitment to fund one individual each year through the TAFE course, with the initiative including quarterly mentoring sessions led by their in-house experts.

The 2023 scholar Kate Bell said: “Women face many challenges these days. We have to juggle family, careers, study, and more. It can be very stressful.

"But the scholarship has made it easier for me to pursue my education. And the industry is full of people who understand what it’s like to have multiple responsibilities.”

Crafty founder James Smith added: "At The Crafty Pint, we're always looking for ways to help the beer world become a more welcoming and supportive space for all, whether that's through stories celebrating diversity, articles that spark discussion around issues impacting the industry, or involvement in events and awards such as this scholarship.

"There's much more to beer than the stereotypical blokes with beards, and initiatives such as this are a great way to both showcase and encourage the industry's inclusive nature.”

Jeanette Ramos, Laboratory and Life Sciences head teacher at TAFE NSW, said: “These types of scholarships are so important to help encourage more women to take up training, join the industry as skilled employees and eventually become managers who will encourage a more inclusive and gender balanced workplace.

"TAFE NSW, in partnership with industry and our experienced brewing teachers, is proud to be part of creating the next generation of brewers.”

Applications close on February 29, 2024, with the winner to be announced on International Women's Day – March 8, 2024.
