National Tree Day at Bowden Brewing

Bowden Brewing have partnered with fellow SA business Frigid.Cloud and a few other SA businesses on a fascinating project exploring sustainable practices in beer.

The beer in question is Beers Don't Grow On Trees, which you can read all about here.

There's just one keg of this "Sustainable Ale" in existence, and it's being tapped on National Tree Day.

It was brewed using a number of sustainable practices; throughout the day, attendees can learn about Bowden's commitment to eco-conscious beer production, including:

  • Locally sourced ingredients: Minimising carbon footprint with local malts, including the environmentally friendly Kernza Malt, local yeast supplier (Ferveo) and special kveik yeast strain, Barossa Valley hops, and repurposed bread and pastries from Lost Loaf Bakery.
  • Energy-efficient brewing: Utilising Frigid.Cloud's innovative cooling system to optimise energy usage across all tanks, along with special yeast strains that minimise cooling needs.
  • Waste minimisation: Capturing spent grains to cultivate delicious in-house mushroom tacos in collaboration with Westside Mushies, and repurposing the remaining substrate as compost for local gardens.

For every pint bought, Frigid.Cloud and Bowden Brewing will plant a tree in partnership with EverGreen Gardening, City of Charles Sturt Council and Unity Housing.

Bowden's venue is open from midday to 9pm but the Meet the Brewer session runs from 1.30pm to 3pm.
