Thunder Road are based in Brunswick East, where they brew beer, cider and seltzer from an impressive brewhouse that sits behind a historical bluestone building. 

If you're keen to join them, they're hiring both a senior brewer and a brewer.


Job Description: Senior Brewer 

Thunder Road Brewing is a proudly independent brewery making thirst-quenching beer, cider, and seltzer from its brewery in Brunswick. We are looking for a Senior Brewer to add to our team. 

This position will report to the Head Brewer and Quality Manager.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Brewing, Plant CIP, Yeast Handling, Beer Clarification (Centrifuge/filtration), raw material and chemical handling.
  • Performing secondary brewing tasks, including milling and grain out.
  • Keg filling and cleaning operation on semi-automatic keg filler.
  • Cellar and fermentation management; including tank sampling and analysis. 
  • Project work- plant maintenance and assist on plant/site upgrades
  • Forklift operation (Reach fork truck), licence not required.
  • General site cleaning.
  • Shift work (We currently operate 5am to 7pm Mon-Friday but some rostered weekend work is required to perform fermentation checks).
  • Reasonable amount of physical strength is required for moving machinery and kegs.

Key attributes:

  • Have a minimum two years’ experience brewing in a commercial brewery. 
  • Proven production coordination / supervision experience within a commercial brewery is essential.
  • Technically minded with a hands-on and can-do attitude.
  • Strong people management skills. Capable of leading change, developing working culture and ability to maximize the team’s performance through clear direction.
  • Excellent communication skills – capable of training staff and educating the public
  • Able to follow safe working practices and site SOP’s

Advantageous:

  • Possesses IBD Diploma or similar qualification
  • Recipe development skills.
  • Can line experience
  • Experience with HACCP / GMP
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel
  • First Aid certificate

  • General site cleaning.
  • Shift work (We currently operate 5am to 7pm Mon-Friday but some rostered weekend work is required (Fermentation Checks);
  • Reasonable amount of physical strength is required for moving machinery and kegs.

Key attributes:

  • Have a minimum 6 months experience in a commercial brewing environment; 
  • Follow safe working practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Hard working with a good attitude.
  • Attention to detail and good record keeping skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to follow SOP’s.
  • Computer literate.
  • Good communicator.

Advantageous:

Brewing or related science qualifications.

Recipe development skills.
