Bintani was founded by Pete Meddings in the mid-90s, initially supplying yeast to the local industry, before expanding into a multifaceted supplier of ingredients and brewing aids in partnership with local and international businesses.

Many members of the Meddings family followed Pete – who you can read about in this feature we published on his retirement in 2020 – into the business, which is a longstanding supporter of the beer industry. The Crafty Pint first experienced this support when working alongside Dale and Phil Meddings as part of a tiny group getting Good Beer Week off the ground, and that generosity has continued, including Bintani's sponsorship of the Pint of Origin festival beer in 2023.

Formerly known as Hop Products Australia, HPA is the largest hop grower in Australia, backed by a team of experts in plant breeding, farm operations, customer service and brewing support. Their farms in Southern Tasmania and North-East Victoria have been growing hops for more than 150 years. They grow 90 percent of Australia’s hops, which is roughly 2 percent of hops grown around the world.
