It’s a pleasant surprise to see a porter front and centre in a brewery’s core range these days. It’s even more special in Queensland, where the year-round heat does seem to put a few people off dark beers. But it’s not hard to see why Hudson Brewing have elevated their version to their core range (even if it wasn't brewery founder Richard Hudson's favourite).
Along with being loved by the locals, Dark Obsession has years taken out a slew of medals at the Royal Queensland Food & Wine Show Beer Awards, as well as the Indies. It’s a well-constructed beer that pours an almost-black shade of brown in the glass with a tan head. A velvety body with a touch of roasted malt flavour are delivered alongside decent bitterness. Chocolate and coffee on the nose come together to make this one another natural, easy-drinker in the brewery’s stable.
