Most beers are made in the following order: 1. Write the recipe. 2. Make the beer. 3. Create the label.
Not so with Galaxy Dust.
Back when Sean and Rhys were first creating the Future Magic brand and design, Rhys put together a mock-up label for a fictional beer just to see what it would look like. It needed a name and style for the front of the label, so he called it ‘Galaxy Dust New England IPA’. It needed other information as well to show where that would go on a hypothetical beer label - ABV, colour, malt and hop combinations, etc - so he made all of this up, too. He sent this mock-up to Sean to see what he thought of the look of the label.
Sean looked past the aesthetics to the fictitious beer and said: “I’m going to make that exact beer.” Thus Galaxy Dust became the first beer designed from the ground up as a Future Magic beer.
Galaxy, Citra and Mosaic hops are paired together with Verdant yeast (a fine combination, Rhys!) to create an exhibition of smooth tropical fruits - mango and passionfruit chief among them - sprinkled with orange zest. And I don’t know if it’s just my imagination since I’m thinking "tropical", but I got a touch of coconut cream as well. Galaxy Dust is soft, even slightly fluffy, and gives an impression of sweetness with the fruit, though it finishes quite dry with light wheat character and a gentle bitterness.
Nice job, Rhys. (And Sean gets a little credit for actually writing the recipe and brewing it, I suppose.)
