It’s hard to have a dubbel and not think of dessert; more specifically, a wintry dessert that warms the soul, like sticky date pudding.
Pouring a ruby-tinged ruddy brown, this beer is a big ol’ serve of wintry pudding right from the get go. It oozes dark dried fruits coated with rich burnt toffee, all drizzled over with dark spiced rum. Toasted malt and a hint of caramel tie together with that back-of-the-mouth sweetness that dates and prunes have, but overall this dubbel isn’t really sweet or sticky; it’s got the dryness of a Christmas-spiced red ale (and shares quite a bit in common with that kind of beer, actually).
Are you up for a bit of decadence? You deserve a bit of decadence. Come on... have a bit of decadence.
