Dad & Dave’s first ever release was a pale ale, brewed all the way back in 2012 when their beloved Brookvale beer trail was still in its infancy. They sold 600 cases, kickstarting a beer journey that’s since seen them become a buzzing brewery and taproom in the now-bustling north Sydney scene.
Back then, their pale was a simple SMASH (single malt and single hop) beer, combining Nelson Sauvin hops and – you guessed it – pale malt. These days, the recipe’s been remixed for more modern palates with the addition of more malt varieties and Enigma hops.
The beer’s better for it too, with the Enigma infusing some extra clout to Pale Ale's tropical punch. Vibrant and gold in the glass, expect hits of zesty citrus, light white wine, and a touch of grapefruit in this very solid, very drinkable pale ale.
By comparison, Dad & Dave’s Hazy is expectedly more hop-forward and foggy than its pale counterpart. Bolstered by a bevy of oats, wheat malt and lactose, it delivers a luscious hit of juicy citrus, passionfruit and coconut, thanks to a hop-load of Vic Secret, Nelson Sauvin, Galaxy and Sabro.
With a full, almost creamy mouthfeel and layers of flavour, this hazy pale is big and bold without ever being too bloaty like some. In short: delicious.
