The folk at Common Ground Brewing use humble words in their description of Bare Bones: Simple. Balanced malt and hops. Straightforward. Refreshing. Clean. Crisp.
Those descriptors are accurate, and to be fair, most people looking for a mid-strength lager are after exactly those things and maybe aren’t interested in what else is going on.
But let me be the one to say this is a well put-together, actually quite delicate beer. It’s beautifully clear with a soft white foam, and there’s a nice soft sweetness in there. Not honey, but, like... bee nectar. Yes, I'm aware how dumb that sounds. No, I not wish to change my answer. I’m trying to emphasise the floral notes that are in there.
Now, it’s not often that someone would rock up to a bar and say, “Hi, I’m after a midstrength lager. Do you have anything beautiful, soft and delicate? Ideally floral, too.” But if they did… they’d get this beer.
