After a fast-flowing run of one-off releases to keep things moving through the COVID-19 lockdowns, Hawkers have come up with the first new year round beer to join their lineup since their rebrand in August 2019. Hazy Pale comes with a cleaner finish to the cans than the look unveiled then, too, one that could be a pitch for Carlton fans' hearts.
As for the appearance of the liquid, this is no token gesture at haze designed to capture contemporary affections; there's an opacity to the pale yellow beer akin to those found in bigger hazies. And it's home to plenty of fruity action: Cascade, Citra, Motueka and Mosaic are responsible for much in the way of pineapple, lime, citrus and red berries. Texturally, it's a case of a satin rug doing its best to smooth out a faintly grippy bitter underlay. All in all, a very modern pale.
UPDATE: The beer has been tweaked a little since launch, with Sabro adding a little more coconut-tinged creaminess and that's grippy underlay smoothed out in favour of a pleasantly dry finish.
