Malty beers just never took off in the Aussie beer world. In the macro beer scene, people look for beers that are crisp and dry and almost devoid of malt character (or any other flavour, really). In the craft scene, hop-forward beers outnumber malt-forward beers a million to one.*
So it’s lovely to see a regional town enjoying a UK-style red ale. Baz’s Red Ale brings exactly what you want from such a beer - an overlay of toffee malt character with slightly nutty undertones, ending with a dry finish.
In an English pub, you’d drink this beer by the pint next to the fireplace. At Noosa Hinterland, replace the fire with glorious sunsets on the verandah and you’re doing okay.
