State Of Brews – Sydney (NSW)

State Of Brews – Sydney (NSW)

There’s too much good beer around. We need to divide and conquer.

For eleven days, State of Brews sees eleven venues around Sydney showcasing beers from a state, territory, country, or region.

Whether you’re after brews from Western Australia, regional Victoria, or Scandinavia; whether you’re looking for a pub, a dedicated craft beer bar, or a bottleshop and bar; whether you want to hit up a specific event, or just crawl around trying a spread of beers from around Australia and the world… State of Brews will have you covered.

All the venues will be overflowing with good beer for the duration of State of Brews, but there are also a bunch of events spread across the week.

Participating venues are:

Here’s a rundown of events taking place on top of the tap showcases to help you plan your week:

August 1

Forest Lodge Hotel - South Australian IPA Day

Royal Albert Hotel - Brews, BBQ & Beats: The Ultimate IPA Showcase With Feral Brewing (from 5pm)

The beer list includes Bad Chaperone Fruit Punch NEPA (only keg to leave WA), and the three Biggie variants together for the last time - Biggie Juice OG, Dirty Biggie, and Imperial Biggie. There’ll be 90s hip hop playing all night, a BBQ pit with a whole hog, and giveaways and bar shouts to keep you happy.

Uncle Hops - NSW IPA Day

The Taphouse - Victorian IPA Day & Fixation Bar Shout (5pm)

Woolpack Hotel - Tasmanian IPA Day

August 2

Bucket Boys - Founders Barrel-Aged Tap Showcase (from 4pm)

Come get some 2017 Backwoods Bastard, 2018 KBS, 2019 Better Half, and 2018 Dankwood - or a flight of all 4.

August 3

Royal Albert Hotel - Colonial Brewing’s Inquest Launch (from 12pm)

Oxford Tavern - Grave Endeavours (from 12pm)

Beers from Sailors Grave and Hargreaves Hill paired with chilled sliders from the kitchen. Try a SG Law of the Tongue Smoked Oyster Stout with a smoked oyster slider, or a HH White Russian White Stout with a PB & J and bacon slider. Or maybe just some smokehouse BBQ, with a SG Lemon Meringue Cream Sour for dessert and a HH Sazerac Rye IPA as a nightcap.

Woolpack Hotel - Tasmania Takeover (from 10am)

It’s not always easy getting Tasmanian products to the mainland, but the Woolpack’s having a red hot go. Eight Tassie breweries will be on tap, matched with traditional fare from the island state - pots of Tassie mussels, scallop pies, and Tasmanian cheeses paired with beers.

August 6

The Taphouse - Meet The Brewers feat. Holgate & Deeds (6pm)

Have a cruisy Tuesday with Ned from Quiet Deeds & Paul Holgate from Holgate Brewhouse. Join them for an easy chat and a bunch of beers to taste - some hazy IPAs from Deeds, and Holgate's got a lager alongside some heavier hitters.

August 7

Dove & Olive - Craft Beer Fight Club Round 2: Bentspoke vs Capital Brewing (7pm)

Enjoy two limited release beers from each contender - Lightweight (4 middies for $20) or Heavyweight (4 schooners for $30). Meet the brewers, play games, win beer and merch, and decide which brewery is victorious!

August 8

Forest Lodge Hotel - Prancing Pony Tap Takeover

Royal Albert Hotel - Beerfarm Tap Takeover

Bucket Boys - Deschutes Barrel-Aged Bottle Share  (6pm)

Not often do you see a vertical tasting that include beers from 12 years ago. Nine Deschutes beauties including The Abyss 2007 and 2008, Black Butte XXX, and The Dissident 2016… the kinds of beers that live up at the pointy end of RateBeer. See the Facebook event for full lineup and tickets.

August 9

Bucket Boys - Modern Times Tap Takeover (from 4pm)

Get with the times. This takeover will showcase four Modern Times beers: Black House Coffee Stout, Fruitlands Gose, Orderville NEIPA and Telesto NEIPA. Flights of all four will be available all weekend, or until stock runs out.

Bitter Phew - Scandinavia Tap Takeover (all weekend)

The Scandinavians are invading! Fourteen brews from Amager Bryghus, Amundsen Bryggeri, Brekeriet, Dugges Bryggeri, and To Øl, including a couple of collabs. Expect an army of imperial stouts and sours, as well as a sneaky pale ale, IIPA and brown ale in there to sweeten the deal.

August 11

Woolpack Hotel - Drink The Kegs Dry

It’s a hard job, but someone’s gotta do it. $6 schooners on all State of Brews beers from 10am. Come do your part.
