Hop Nation Caledonian Cask Project at Whisky & Alement

It wasn't supposed to turn out this way, but if there's one thing that could claim to turn the COVID curse into a blessing, this might just be it...

Back in 2019, Hop Nation, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and the legendary boozer Whisky & Alement teamed up on a small project with big ambitions.

Basically, they wanted to get whole whisky casks shipped from Scotland to Australia to be filled with Hop Nation beer and released in time for Good Beer Week 2020.

So, early that year, they duly received and filled their first two casks – a peated whisky cask from Islay and an old ex-Highland whisky cask. Very shortly afterwards, much of the world pulled up stumps of normal life and the rest of the year was effectively written off.

But that beer, well, it kept sitting in those casks, getting better. And now its time has come.

Throughout the entirety of GBW 2021 (that's May 15 to 23), Whisky & Alement will be serving Hop Nation's cask-matured beers alongside the very whisky that was in the cask before the beer.

Elsewhere, the fridges will be also stripped out for the week-and-a-bit festival in order to showcase the full Hop Nation range, all paired with flair and fine whiskies.

Given the smallish quantities of the beverages involved, a "while stocks last" disclaimer is requisite, so if you're keen to get in and try them you'd be best to get in early.

The show starts at 4pm each day.
