In case you haven't noticed, a lot of places are putting on Oktoberfest events this year; if you fancy tucking into a classic beer imported from Germany, or something traditional made by a local bricks-and-mortar brewery, you really won't have to go far.
But the pros ain't the only ones putting on Oktoberfest-ivities.
Since the 1990s, Victorian home brew club the Bayside Brewers have hosted their own Oktoberfest competition where grass roots brewers compete to recreate classic German beer styles. This year's edition (and judging) is being held on October 28 at Bad Shepherd in Cheltenham and entries are now open to all amateur Victorian and club-affiliated brewers who want to see how their best beers stack up against their peers.
There are five categories – Pale Lager, Amber & Dark Lager, Bock, German Ales, and Wheat Beer – and awards will be dished out to the Champion Beer of Show, Best Novice, and first, second and third place-getters in each category.
If you'd like to get involved, head to the club's competition website for all the details and key dates – the most important one being the cut-off date for entries which is October 21.
