Terpenes are found in many plants but, when spoken about in the content of craft beer and hops, they're responsible for driving many of the flavours drinkers love.
The high concentration of terpenes in hops can deliver qualities referred to as dankness, pine, citrus and tropical – and now brewers are experimenting with adding more terpenes into their beers.
Leading the charge locally are Wolf of the Willows, who have released multiple terpene-enhanced beers that draw their inspiration from popular strains of cannabis.
If you'd like to find more about this new frontier in beer, you can join the brewery and The Crafty Pint at The Cherry Tree on February 28 as a panel of experts discuss all things terpenes: what they are, how they’re used in brewing and what’s happening in America’s craft beer industry.
We’ll also explore the growing market for drinks containing cannabis in America as well as the medical cannabis field locally.
The Panel:
- Scott McKinnon – cofounder of Wolf of the Willows
- Josh Kendal – head brewer at Wolf of the Willows
- Will Ziebell – senior writer at The Crafty Pint
- Dr Jay Phang – Board Member for Ananda Collective (MBBS, FRACGP). Find out more about Dr Jay here.
Tickets cost $20+BF; the ticket price includes two terpene beers at the event.
