GOOD GRAIN Gathering 2024 – POSTPONED

THE GOOD GRAIN GATHERING HAS BEEN POSTPONED

The team at Stone & Wood decided to postpone the event due to "practical challenges" facing the industry at the moment. Instead, their intention is to "focus our energy on building momentum and awareness in our communities, and to raise money for the GG accelerator program."

Prior to lining up a new date for the event, a series of other plans are being developed to help build awareness and continue conversations around regen agriculture. In the meantime, you'll find a number of articles and podcasts on these topics in The Crafty Pint's Sustainability section.

You can also discover what the initiative's founders at Stone & Wood and Sustainable Table mean by "good grain" via this website and listen to a podcast on the initiative here too.

As the Stone & Wood team put it when announcing the decision to postpone: "We are still very committed to Good Grain, and the much needed and amazing work required in this space. We see this as a temporary step back allowing us to double down on our focus to drive awareness, create a united source of truth for the regen industry and the accelerator program the funds it needs."

ORIGINAL EVENT LISTING

A little over a decade ago in his sweetly melodic but piercingly pointed masterclass Now I’m Learning to Love the War, Father John Misty nailed a few home truths concerning the theme of overconsumption, cleverly coaxing the listener into dwelling on the true cost of some of life's affordable luxuries.

Try not to think so much about
The truly staggering amount of oil
That it takes to make a record
All the shipping, the vinyl, the cellophane lining
The high gloss
The tape and the gear

The guilt-inducing point is that the growth and consumption-obsessed system in which we all participate has knock-on consequences – and the beer industry is in no way immune. Ingredients. Energy. Packaging. Chemicals. The cost of making beer can be measured in more than what you pay for it.

So it is that a group of impassioned and determined folk in the wider brewing and distilling industries are getting together to highlight and promote one area where real possibilities exist to offset the cost of consumption: regenerative agriculture

On October 26, anyone involved in the production of beer, whisky, malt – or indeed wider agriculture – is invited to come to Stone & Wood Brisbane where you can connect with a who's who of people who are driving the regenerative grain economy in Australia. The speakers include:

  • Topher Boehm - Wildflower
  • Caolan Vaughn - Stone & Wood
  • Dave Withers - Archie Rose
  • Stu Whytcross - Voyager Craft Malt
  • Jason Cotter - Tuerong Farm
  • Matt Newell - Mountain Rye Perennial Grain
  • Matt Haggarty - Natural Intelligence Farming
  • Jade Miles - Sustainable Table
  • Chris & Gab Moore - Sailors Grave Brewing

Tickets are just $25 which include tastings from the above businesses, interactive activities, morning tea and an exclusive regenerative lunch. The event runs from 9am to 2pm, which is more than enough time to change your outlook and help bring about positive change towards a more sustainable brewing future.
