The Crafty Pint operates as an online magazine and resource for the Australian beer world. It is the most widely read local beer news site, topping Beer Cartel's annual survey of beer drinkers every year since it was launched. Each year, we publish around 2,000 articles, including hundreds of news stories and features plus beer reviews, event listings, jobs and classifieds. Alongside this, we curate a directory of good beer businesses: breweries, venues, bottleshops and other businesses supplying the beer world.
We maintain a distinct divide between these two key parts of the site:
You can't buy stories
We don't accept payment for editorial, such as news and features, so you know that every story you read is on the site because we believe it is of interest to our readers, not because it's been paid for. You'll find no native or sponsored content here.
But you can buy a listing
All of the listings within the directory – breweries, venues, bottleshops and businesses – attract a fee: a one-off setup fee then a monthly subscription. Brewery, venue and bottleshop owners ask to be featured here and, if they're good beer operators, we'll visit them so we can compile their entry. They then sign off on the description and photos we put together for accuracy, but everything else on the site is published at the discretion of the editorial team. Typically, listings in the Business Directory are compiled without the need to visit in person.
Other elements of The Crafty Pint to check out:
The Crafty Pint app
Launched in May 2018, this is designed to help users find good beer when they're out and about, bringing the directory part of the site to the forefront. Businesses that subscribe to our directory get full listings in the app, including details of forthcoming events and offers they're running for readers. We also include hundreds of other good beer operators we've written about, linking their location on the map to the relevant article(s).
The Crafty Cabal
This is our membership scheme, where readers can sign up as supporters and gain access to heaps of special deals, offers and exclusive events at breweries and venues around Australia. We also run regular competitions for members – aka Cabalistas. Think of it as you would the subscription schemes run by community radio stations. You can access everything we publish free but, if you choose to help us grow, you get heaps of bonuses in return. Find out more here.
Our weekly newsletter
Every Friday (except public holidays and those either side of Christmas and New Year), we send out a newsletter rounding up news from around the beer world here and overseas. It's also a one-stop-shop for finding out what's been published on Crafty in the past week and often features competitions for readers.
