Right now, they have an opening for their next bar manager, which is a position that's about as rare as some of their drams. 


Job Description: Bar Manager

We’re on the hunt for a new Bar Manager to lead one of Melbourne’s most iconic whisky venues into its next chapter! This is a coveted position that opens only once every decade and offers long term growth within the whisky industry. In 2025 the venue will celebrate 15 years, and we’re looking for someone to bring a fresh new energy to the space. 

About Whisky & Alement

We are a multi-faceted, family run business with a passion for whisky at its heart. In 2023 the venue won World’s Best Whisky Bar (Rest of World) at the World Whiskies Awards in London solidifying the pivotal role the venue plays on the world stage. 

What we do:

  • We are a world class whisky bar operating 7 nights a week until 1am
  • A comprehensive whisky tasting program including weekly whisky classes, events and private tastings, 
  • A specialty single malt bottle shop available both in-house and online, 
  • The Whisky Set quarterly independent bottling, selected and bottled by W&A, and supporting local artists through commissioning of custom art for each label 
  • An importing arm specialising in independent bottlings of Scotch whisky

About the position

We are looking for a dynamic Bar Manager to lead and inspire our bar team. Curate and maintain a world class whisky collection in an everchanging environment. Our team are the key to our success with the bar manager responsible for its cohesion and team morale. We believe in offering quality training, travel and experiences to facilitate wholesome, real-life customer service and experiences. The Bar Manager will work closely with the venue owners enabling quick decision making and no red tape. 

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Excellent beverage knowledge & bartending skills, specialising in whisky, beer and cocktails
  • Great connections within the whisky industry
  • Cocktail menu curation experience 
  • A strong history of venue management, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience
  • Know how to lead your team by example
  • Roster management
  • A mind for meeting KPI’s 
  • Good stock management skills
  • Strong presentation skills for tastings is advantageous 
  • Organisational and time management skills
  • Be able to lead regular team meetings
  • Pride in personal presentation
  • Current RSA certificate
  • Available to work nights including weekends

Advantageous, but not required:

  • Familiarity with the Scotch Malt Whisky Society 
  • WSET certification
