Job Description: Business Development Manager 

Spectapular Enterprises has an opportunity that does not come around too often in the form of an exciting, newly created position. We are seeking an ambitious and dynamic professional who has a passion for sales,  business development, partnerships and craft beer to join the team in the role of Business Development Manager and Brand Ambassador for the famous, industry-leading GABS Craft Beer & Cider Festivals and its affiliated products.

At the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular (GABS), we’re all about sharing our love of the craft beer industry and  celebrating this with as many people as possible through exceptional experiences. 

You may have heard of our craft beer festivals which currently take place across four cities (Melbourne,  Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland) each winter. They feature a thriving marketplace of craft breweries, cideries  and exhibitors. Attendees get to sample a range of unique and exciting GABS Beers and Ciders, brewed  specially for the event by over 100 craft breweries from across Australia and New Zealand. Plus, there is an  outstanding atmosphere that is enjoyed by tens of thousands of craft consumers each year. GABS is so much  fun, it’s even gained international recognitions, with influential US magazine The Beer Connoisseur and  Canada’s Huffington Post describing GABS as one of the best beer festivals in the world. 

Add to this a new Summer Tour series of events, one of the biggest craft beer people’s choice polls in the  world, the GABS Hottest 100, and a celebration of the beautiful designs on the outside of craft brewery cans  in the GABS Can Design Awards and you understand why GABS loves growing consumers’ appreciation and  awareness of the wonderful world of craft brewing.  

About the Role 

As GABS Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for business development across the extensive and fast-growing GABS portfolio. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will be joining a small collaborative and ambitious team working in the incredibly vibrant craft brewery industry. You will use your creative and consultative partnership approach to create tailored packages and bespoke proposals for existing key accounts, as well as to drive new business sales as you immerse yourself in taking ownership of  the opportunity this exciting new challenge provides. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the implementation and delivery of the yearly budget and strategic partnership plan. 
  • Manage and develop existing partner relationships as well as generate new business with industry,  media and government stakeholders. 
  • Use a creative sales approach and market research to develop new leads and identify growth opportunities. 
  • Produce presentations of tailored packages which deliver on customer brand objectives. 
  • Support local marketing programs for brand development, market awareness, market positioning and market demand generation.
  • Management and daily maintenance of the company CRM system. 
  • Build a strong knowledge base of the local and international craft brewing industry and rapport with all stakeholders. 
  • Proudly promote the GABS brand. 

Required Experience and Skills 

  • Proven professional with a minimum 3-5 year track-record of success in business development,  partnerships, and sales. (Ideally in the beer, hospitality or media environment, however this would be a great opportunity for someone with a proven track record in sales to transfer into the craft beer and entertainment industry). 
  • Great organisational skills, proactive attitude with high attention to detail and strong Microsoft  Office, Google Suite and CRM user experience.  
  • A strategic and innovative thinker with ability to present complex marketing solutions.
  • Consultative, yet confident and persuasive with strong sales and negotiation skills. 
  • A strong and energetic team player who is an excellent self-motivator and strong verbal and written communicator. 
  • Ability to work in a small but fast-paced environment and adapt to new trends and opportunities. 
  • Degree or diploma in either marketing, commerce, hospitality, or finance will be beneficial 
  • A passion for craft beer. 

GABS is in the events and hospitality industry with local and international productions and clients. As such,  this position will occasionally have a requirement to work out of normal hours and travel interstate.
