Young Henrys Is Hiring An Assistant Brewer

This posting is more than 1 year old

Since launching in Sydney's inner west, Young Henrys has built a dedicated fanbase around its Newtown home and, increasingly, across the country.

Currently, the brew crew is looking to add a another member to ranks and, provided you share a love of music, it might be you.

Job Description: Assistant Brewer

Get out your favourite black band t-shirt, this could be your chance to join the most vibrant and growing brewery in Sydney’s inner west! Here at Young Henrys we're looking for people to join our Newtown brew crew.

I’m not going to beat around the bush; brewing isn’t just standing around looking cool, comparing tattoos and discussing possible unintended over attenuation from dry hopping beers. There’s a lot of work, both physical and mental, that go into making our favourite frothies and that’s why brewers are special people. And anyone who’s been to our brewery knows how special our brew crew are! Now that’s out of the way we can get to the fun bit...

For these roles we are prepared to consider folks with minimal knowledge of brewing and those looking to change careers. But ideally, those who have some experience, are currently working in the industry and are pursuing brewing education are more likely candidates. Salaries will be commensurate to that experience.

A little while ago we restructured our whole training program so everyone in our brewing team can clearly see their progression as they’re trained across all facets of brewery work. From fermentation management and cellar work, to CIP regimes and filtration all the way to brewhouse operation and wort production. With some lab work, packaging and recipe creation thrown in. Sounds tops eh?

While we are a production brewery we don’t just make Newtowner all day. Our brewers get the opportunity to flex their creative muscles with their own beers, collaboration and R&D projects throughout the year.

If you are considering applying, you’ll need to work as a solid part of our team, follow direction, work safely, show initiative and ensure your own tasks are on track. Multitasking and good time management are essential skills. (Just telling me that you’re good at these things is not as convincing as being able to give me some examples…)

Our brewery is hands-on with hoses to run, pumps to set up/breakdown and malt bags to lift so you’ll need to be physically fit. We’re looking for someone who is reliable, adaptable, calm, can communicate clearly, be straightforward and has a sense of humour.

We currently operate seven days a week, so some weekend shifts may form part of the role.

The Young Henrys crew are like family, we don’t just work together we hang out together and are very proud of our beer. If you want to build a long-term career with a growing Australian company this is your chance.

Send your CV or resume along with a cover letter outlining what you’d bring to Young Henrys to jobs@younghenrys.com and we’ll take it from there. It doesn’t have to be long, just let us know what your favourite bands are…

Applications close on August 17, 2018.
